Cameroon Pick up gold as RD Congo and Congo Brazzaville secure zonal phase spots
Libreville, Gabon, July 21, 2013 – Cameroon’s national women's volleyball team have captured gold medal at the sub- zonal African Women’s Pool F qualification tournament for the 2014 World Championship after their straight sets victory over DR Congo (25-20, 25-18, 25-13) after the third and final day of competition held in Libreville.
Cameroon finished the competition with a clean sheet in three matches to achieve a win loss ratio of 3-0 ahead of DR Congo who dropped to 2-1.
Both teams confirmed their tickets to the zonal phase of African qualifier to be held in October and November 2013, early on in the competition and were joined by Congo Brazzaville after the latter won the bronze medal against Gabon 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-13).
Congo Brazzaville improved their record to 1-2 to get the third ticket of the pool in the second round leaving Gabon at bottom of the table with 0-3.
The African World Championship Qualifier comprises
the sub-zonal stage this month to qualify 30 teams to the second round which is
the zonal phase to be held in October and November 2013.
