Cameroon and RD Congo through to zonal phase at African qualifier for World Champs
Libreville, Gabon, July 20, 2013- Cameroon and the DR Congo women's volleyball teams have secured their zonal phase tickets – the next stage in the African Women Pool F qualification tournament for the 2014 World Championship – after securing wins over Congo Brazzaville and Gabon respectively, on Saturday.
Cameroon easily trounced Congo Brazzaville 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-6) in less than an hour to improve their record to 2-0, while Congo dropped to 0-2.
DR Congo also clinched a straight sets victory over Gabon in the second match (2518, 25-9, 25-10) in 57 minutes. The DR Congo also improved their record to 2-0 and Gabon dropped to 0-2.
Cameroon meets the DR Congo in the third and last day for the gold medal in the four nation round robin tournament, while Gabon meets Congo Brazzaville for the bronze medal where the winner will join both Cameroon and RD Congo to the zonal phase of the qualifier.
The top three countries of this pool will proceed to the zonal phase of the qualification to be held in October and November, 2013.
The African World Championship Qualifier passes
through the sub-zonal stage this month, where 30 teams will qualify for the second
round, which is the zonal phase to be held in October and November 2013.
