2013 World Grand Prix lineup taking shape

Danielle Scott-Arruda of USA shows off the FIVB World Grand Prix trophy
Lausanne, Switzerland, July 20, 2012 – The lineup for next year’s FIVB World Grand Prix is taking shape, with Cuba and Dominican Republic this week joining USA and Puerto Rico as NORCECA’s four representatives after reaching the semifinals of the Pan American Cup in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

A total of 16 teams will take part in the tournament next summer, and joining the top four NORCECA teams from the Pan American Cup are the top two finishers from South America, namely Brazil and Argentina.

In Europe, automatic qualifiers Poland have been joined by Grand Prix debutants Czech Republic and Bulgaria, their reward for reaching the final of the Women’s European League earlier this month. That means there are just two European vacancies left, with a tournament to be held later this year to decide them.

The Asia Cup in September will determine which two AVC teams join automatic qualifiers Japan and China, while Africa will confirm the dates of the tournament which will determine their participant in the coming months.

In summary, it means there will be five teams from Europe, four from NORCECA, two from South America, four from Asia and one from Africa.
