Born in Sao Paulo, the talented Willian started playing in Report Suzano. He played for the Brazilian youth and junior teams, winning the Junior South American Championship in 1998, where was named  best setter, and the bronze medal in the World Championships the following season. He played for the senior team in 2003 for the first time. He also played for Argentinean club Drean Bolivar for several years where he conquered the National Title for four seasons and was elected the best player in the country. He returned to Brazil in 2010, to play for Sada Cruzeiro.
