RC Cannes and PGE Skra Belchatow to host CEV Indesit Champions League finals

Polish side PGE Skra Belchatow have never won the CEV Indesit Champions League so will be hoping the home support will help bring victory
Luxembourg, January 22, 2010 – The drawing of the lots for the Playoff 12 in the CEV Indesit Champions League Playoff was completed on Thursday, with the host clubs for the final stages also announced.

FIVB Men's World Club Championshipfinalists PGE Skra Belchatow will host the men’s final four in Lodz, Poland, whilst RC Cannes will host the women’s final in France.

The decision means that both sides automatically qualify for the final stage, and their berths in the playoff will be taken by the best third ranked team from the pool stages, Greek outfit Olympiacos Piraeus for the men and Russian side Universitet Belgorod for the women.

In the men’s competition, World Club Champions Trentino BetClic will face Belgian team Knack Randstaad Roeselare, but the highlight is likely to be Russia’s Dynamo Moscow playing Greece’s Panathinaikos Athens.

Both sides were runners up in their pools and both finished with the same number of victories.

Elsewhere Austrian team Hypo Tirol Innsbruck will have a short trip across the border to Germany when they play Friedrichshafen in their first ever Champions League playoff match, the club qualifying just ahead of Belgian team Noliko Maaseik in Pool C.

In the women’s competition, Dynamo Moscow will face compatriots Zarechie Odintsovo in an all Russian derby, whilst defending champions Volley Bergamo face Polish side Bank BPS Fakro Muszynianka.

The draw was overseen by ECC President and CEV Vice-President Riet Ooms, who also welcomed representatives from many of the clubs taking part, including Dinamo Moscow, Zenit Kazan and Knack Randstaad Roeselare.
