Lausanne, June 4, 2009 – FIVB President Jizhong Wei will visit Finland this weekend to attend the 25th annual Sunny Power Cup, the world's largest youth Volleyball tournament and part of the FIVB's Mass Volley activities.
Mr. Wei, who will be in the host city of Oulu on June 5 and 6, said it is a privilege to take part in and support the event, which runs from June 4-7 and will feature 884 teams from 161 clubs - or more than 8,500 youngsters from 7 to 22 years old.
"Volleyball is not merely a top sporting event for the strongest professional athletes. It's also a sport for children and for participation at the grassroots level," Mr. Wei said. "As FIVB president, it is not only a duty but an honor to witness these kinds of events and share the joy and passion of our beloved game with future generations."
The Sunny Power Cup is an annual tournament that began in 1985 that routinely attracts thousands of participants from many different countries, including Estonia, Iceland, Scotland and Finland.
This year, some 5,000 games will played on 286 outdoor courts, with the finals slated for Sunday, June 7.
