Turkey win Balkan Youth Women Championships 2006

The victorious Turkish team

Kocaeli (Turkey), 31 July 2006 - Turkey won the 2006 edition of the Youth Girls Balkan Championships in the Kocaeli and captured its second gold medal in the competition, after 2004. The home team, enjoying the support of 1500 fans and led by star setter Naz Aydemir, defeated three times champions Serbia and Montenegro 3:1, although the girls from Belgrade started the match brightly, wining the first set 25:17. After equalising, the team coached by Gokhman Ednan never looked back and won the tight third set 25:23, before clinching the final set 25:15. The bronze medal went to Bulgaria, while last year's champion Romania defeated Greece 3:2 and finished in fourth place.
