European volleyball family show their support for President Graça and his pioneering vision

President Graça received the overwhelming support of Europe’s volleyball family at the XXXVI CEV General Assembly in Sofia
Lausanne, Switzerland, October 21, 2015 - FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° was warmly welcomed by delegates at the XXXVI CEV General Assembly in Sofia, Bulgaria, which concluded on Saturday, where he received the overwhelming support of Europe’s volleyball family for his vision in administering the sport.

President Graça arrived in the Bulgarian capital on Thursday, receiving the prestigious honorary degree of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Bulgarian National Sport Academy on his arrival.
Previous recipients of the award include former IOC Presidents Jacques Rogge and Juan Antonio Samaranch; former professional footballer and football administrator Franz Beckenbauer; and legendary pole vault champion and IOC Executive Board member Sergey Bubka. Bulgaria’s Minister of Youth and Sport, Krasen Kralev, also paid tribute to President Graça, ranking him amongst these distinguished names in sport.
On Friday, President Graça addressed delegates at the General Assembly and one of the key features of his speech was the FIVB’s 9 goals, which was officially launched at the Swatch FIVB World Tour Finals in Fort Lauderdale, USA, earlier this month.

President Graça then recapped his innovative and dynamic strategic plan which aims to help the FIVB achieve its vision of transforming volleyball and beach volleyball into the number one family sport entertainment in the world. This was well received by the member federations in attendance who share and support his vision.

There was also an opportunity for President Graça to meet Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, during his visit to the Bulgarian capital. President Graca was welcomed by Borisov along with Kralev and the President of the Bulgaria Volleyball Federation, Dancho Lazarov, and discussions centred on the country’s potential candidature to jointly host the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in 2018 with Italy.

Next up for President Graça is the NORCECA Congress in the Dominican Republic, on October 31 and November 1, which will be another opportunity to foster unity and support amongst volleyball’s key stakeholders for his pioneering vision.
