FIVB social engagement reaches new heights

Lausanne, Switzerland, September 9, 2014 – With the latest technology and fan social engagement, volleyball seems to be at the peak of its time, both online and in-venue.

Just as a record number of 62,000 fans attended the FIVB Men’s World Championship Poland 2014 opening match in Warsaw, the FIVB Volleyball Facebook fan page also reached a milestone with 200,000 likes.

New social engagement tools at tournaments and online have given fans new opportunities to support their favourite volleyball teams. Fans in attendance at FIVB World Championship events are invited to “Tweet for your Team” to participate in a virtual tug-of-war with the opposing team fans, and a new Social Wall - both features powered by Spredfast - shows real-time engagement of tournament-related fan photos and commentary across numerous social media platforms.

The FIVB aims to provide fans on social media an exclusive and inside look at the world of volleyball. Each social media platform gives fans a unique perspective on the sport, while encouraging fans to share their own volleyball experiences.

With a focus on fans, the FIVB is well on its way to achieving its social media mission to be the official commentator on FIVB events: forming relationships with fans and engaging an audience to bring the spectacular sports of beach volleyball and volleyball to the world, while preserving high standards that will maintain and grow volleyball and beach volleyball as one of the world's premier sports and entertainment properties.
