FIVB social media reaches milestone ahead of 2014 season
Lausanne, Switzerland, February 25, 2014 – With qualifications for 2014 FIVB volleyball events in full swing and less than two months until the beginning of beach volleyball season, fans have a lot to talk about. And more than 100,000 of those fans have headed to FIVB’s Facebook page, to "like" quotes, tips, pictures and breaking news.
While 100,00 is an extraordinary number, what’s even more notable is how fans who engage with the FIVB on Facebook are shaping the content on the page and impacting the content shared online, as well as digital publications such as VolleyWorld.
One of the most popular features on the FIVB Facebook page is the hundreds of professional photos from FIVB events, which show what’s happening in the sport as well as motivational images from around the world.
Fans also enjoy sharing their own volleyball and beach volleyball photos with the FIVB online. Many fans submitted photos for the FIVB Photo Fan Contest, and every week, hundreds of fans on Instagram share photos for a chance to be featured on Fan Photo Friday.
Twitter fans are now engaging with 24 FIVB tournament accounts, where they get the most in-depth, up-to-date news on each volleyball and beach volleyball tournament, including qualifications, rule changes, team news, and athlete and coach information.
Fans looking for ways to incorporate volleyball into their lifestyles are also getting health and nutrition tips, exercise advice, volleyball related recipes and motivational images on FIVB’s Pinterest page.
In China, nearly 120,000 fans are engaging with the FIVB on social media platforms, Sina Weibo and Sina Tencent.
As FIVB gears up for it’s next big event – the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2014 Drawing of Lots on March 10 – social media fans have even more to look forward to. At the event, which kicks-off the premier women’s volleyball event of the year, fans will get the first look at the new trophy and discover which teams will face-off at the tournament in Italy, from September 23 to October 12.
