An open air celebration of volleyball in Lomas de Zamora

Over 500 children played volleyball in Eva Peron Park in Lomas de Zamora
Lomas de Zamora, Argentina, August 12, 2014 - Lomas de Zamora continued to celebrate the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix's first stop in Argentina with an open air event at the Eva Peron Park, where over 500 children gathered to play volleyball.

On Saturday, Lomas de Zamora also hosted the Junior Grand Prix, which was organised in association with the Argentine Volleyball Federation and the Metropolitan Volleyball Federation. As many as 20 courts were set up over the weekend at the athletics track in the huge Lomas Park.

The event saw double-gender teams from 15 different Metropolitan Clubs take to the courts. The competition was split into different age groups, including U-13, U-14 and U-16. All involved enjoyed their volleyball, playing from noon to about four o'clock. The emphasis was not on competition, but on enjoying the game as an activity. At the end of the day, the participants - all equipped with jerseys and flags - made their way to the Microestadio to watch the matches between Cuba and Peru and Argentina and Canada. A victory for the local team crowned a perfect day for the children in attendance.

The Junior Grand Prix event was also an opportunity to grow awareness around the "Let's play together in teams against gender violence" campaign, which was also promoted during the World Grand Prix weekend. As part of the campaign, the children came together to show a red card to gender violence.
