Volleyball hits the streets of Yerevan

Over 150 children participated in the “Street Volley 2014” development initiative held in Armenia's capital city Yerevan
Yerevan, Armenia, July 16, 2014 - Armenia celebrated its new status as a member of the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) by organising a “Street Volley 2014” festival in the streets of Yerevan. Twelve teams and over 150 children played volleyball - some for the first time - in a safe environment and supervised by trained volleyball coaches.

The team of Arabkir defeated Avan 2-1 in a close fought final to win the competition. The Armenian Volleyball Federation issued medals and best player awards.

As Armenia begin to increase their development activities, CEV President André Meyer enthused: "Having recently been accepted as a member of EEVZA, it is very rewarding to see the Armenian Federation begin to develop volleyball and beach volleyball with initiatives such as today’s held in the capital city. This is doubly exciting as this weekend Armenia host their first CEV Youth Beach Volleyball Summer Festival on the beach of Sevan.”

To assist the development of beach volleyball in Armenia, the CEV in cooperation with its official ball supplier Mikasa have provided Armenia with a large quantity of unique CEV Summer Festival branded beach volleyballs and Mikasa nets.
