Volleyball schools to be set up in Yemen

The Teachers Course in Yemen opened on Monday April 28

Sana'a, Yemen, April 29, 2014 – The VCP Teachers course in Sana'a, the capital of Yemen, opened on Monday.  The Course Instructor was Mr Johann Huber from Austria and the practical lesson took place at the Olympic Sportshall.

Mr Mohsen Ahmed Saleh, President of the Yemen Volleyball Association, welcomed Mr Mohamed Al Ahigiri, Secretary General of the NOC, Mr Said Ahmed, Manager of the Education Ministry’s School Sports department, and Mr Hussein Awad, treasurer of the volleyball federation, to the opening ceremony.

Mr Said, who was speaking on behalf of the Minister for Sports and Education, explained that volleyball is the only sport in Yemen for which the national federation is running projects in schools. The federation also has a well-developed partnership with the country’s school authorities.

Ten volleyball schools are to be set up across Yemen in the follow-up to the Teachers Course in Sana'a. “With the inspiration and knowledge acquired during the FIVB VCP Teachers Course, the school authorities and the volleyball federation expect a boost for our sport in Yemen,” said Mr Al Ahigiri.
