Brazilian coach conducts successful clinic in Jamaica

Jamaica Volleyball Association continues to impulse development of volleyball in the country by promoting the sport at the primary school level
Westmoreland, Jamaica, April 11, 2014 - Augusto Sabbatini, the international volleyball coach of Brazil, conducted a successful coaching clinic on Tuesday at Godfrey Stewart High School in Westmoreland that was attended by 10 coaches and 14 students from across the parish.

Sabbatini has been aiding the Jamaica Volleyball Association (JaVA) since March 15 by presenting a series of one-day coaching clinics as part of JaVA’s effort to invest in the development of volleyball at the primary and secondary schools levels.

Sabbatinni is made available by the North, Central America and Caribbean (NORCECA) Volleyball Confederation that includes Jamaica and was assisted by Steve Davis, the National Senior Men’s Coach and School Development Officer.

The teachers/coaches from three secondary schools and five primary schools plus Western Region Coordinator Haile Mika’el, benefitted from the four-hour long course that involved mostly practical activity in which they participated along with the students.

Working in groups of three with equipment provided by the host, the participants executed the basic skills sets of serve receive, setting, attack and serve that were presented in segments as part of the warm-up process. Great emphasis was placed on positioning of the feet at every stage.

“It is important that warm-up includes all areas of the game so as to prepare the players for the match,” Sabbatini explained. “Without proper foot placement you will not be able to reach the ball or direct it as desired.”
