Appointment of coaches helps boost African development project

The FIVB's Africa development plan continues to gain momentum
Lausanne, Switzerland, October 18, 2013 – In line with the strategy of FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° to help develop volleyball in Africa, six coaches have been assigned to African countries to apply a hands-on approach to raising the level of volleyball on the continent.

In addition, Italy has undertaken the responsibility of overseeing the programme, especially with regard to developing volleyball in northern Africa, specifically Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia.

To this end, the Italians have already made inroads in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia to assist with coaching in those countries.

The moves are part of a four-year Volleyball Development Project in African countries called “The North Africa Project,” which was commissioned by Dr. Graça.

The project, led by the FIVB Development Department with the help of Italian FIVB Board of Administration member Renato Arena, started in April with internships and the participation of African youth teams in different tournaments.

The FIVB Development Department also assigned coaches to African countries such as: Cape Verde (Luca Privatera -ITA), Burkina Faso (Mouloud Ikhedji - ALG), Chad (Kamel Imeloul - ALG), Rwanda (Kaci Mohamed Said), Burundi (Yende Tiadjou Lavoisier) and Mozambique (Amilton Barros - BRA).

The project will also see the FIVB and the Italian Volleyball Federation provide training and technical assistance at all levels: management, arbitration, organizational and competition over the next three years.
