Coaches course concludes in Vanuatu
Port Vila, Vanuatu, April 05, 2013 – A Level I Coaches course was conducted in Vanuatu from March 11 to 18 under the leadership of Australian Mrs Lauren McLeod, coach of the Vanuatu Women’s Beach Volleyball team.
During the week long course, participants had an opportunity to explore and develop their skills and knowledge on ways to enhance their players’ performance with physical preparation, recovery and nutrition.
The course was organised to further develop the sport of volleyball in Vanuatu. It is hoped that the event will encourage other South Pacific Ocean islands to carryout similar training programmes.
Instructor Lauren McLeod has a long history in the game, having played volleyball since high school and later beach volleyball. In 2000 she participated in the Queensland Beach Volleyball Tour where she was voted ‘Best Defender of the Year.’ Although McLeod stopped competing following an injury, she continued her work in the sport by becoming a FIVB International Beach Volleyball Coach in 2008.
The Coaches Course is supported by the FIVB’s VCP programme, which was established to provide equal opportunities to national federations all over the world, with the aim of developing volleyball and beach volleyball through a top quality programme for young players, teachers, coaches and referees.
