Afghanistan holds zonal championships

 
With the result, Afjtan Balkh, Perozi Balkh and Jozjan volleyball teams have qualified to play in the Afghan Volleyball Premium League
Kabul, Afghanistan, November 13, 2012 – The 2012 North and North East Zonal Volleyball Championship in Afghanistan was held November 8 to 12, culminating in a final match between Aftaj Balkh and Perozi Balkh. Aftaj Balkh emerged as victors by a score of 3-1.

A total of nine teams from eight provinces participated in the championship, which was sponsored by Etisalat Telecommunications Company, the main sponsor for volleyball in Afghanistan.

Jozjan province took 3rd place and Takhter finished 4th.

Afjtan Balkh, Perozi Balkh and Jozjan volleyball teams have qualified to play in the Afghan Volleyball Premium League, where the top three teams from all five of the country’s zones will be competing.

In the closing ceremony, Afghanistan Volleyball Federation president Dr. Poplzay presented the trophy and gold medals to the champion team. The vice-president, Mr. Safi, distributed 200 kid’s volleyballs and 10 nets provided by the FIVB development fund project (Afghanistan Volleyball Development on District Level) to provincial representatives. These are meant to help in the organisation of Mini Volleyball festivals and Cool Volley festivals in primary schools for boys and girls. The provincial representatives, team coaches and players expressed their appreciation for the support the FIVB has provided to children, and committed to conduct kids’ volleyball events in their regions.
