Peru holds first beach volleyball course

Peru will send some of its young pairs to the FIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH Junior and Youth World Championships later this year | Lima, Peru, June 12, 2012 – Peru hosted its first ever FIVB Volleyball Cooperation Programme (VCP) Beach Volleyball Grassroots course from June 5 to 9 as the South American country looks to develop the sport.
FIVB instructor Marco Martinez Novo of Cuba led the five-day course.
The country is hoping to send pairs to the 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball SWATCH Junior and Youth World Championships, set to take place in Halifax, Canada and Larnaka, Cyprus respectively.
"After four years work in beach volleyball, we have reached an important moment for this sport as this is the first time the FIVB has held an official course for beach volleyball coaches in our country" Juan Castro Romero, Peruvian National Federation president said.
“A year ago this event was an illusion and now it becomes a reality, we will participate at the World Championships,” junior player Vivian Baella said. “We are training very hard even if the weather is not the best, we are working hard to compete and do our country proud.”
