Beach Volleyball Awards Best Female Setter of 2018/2019 - Melissa Humana-Paredes

World champion Melissa Humana-Paredes of Canada was voted Best Setter of 2018/2019
Lausanne, Switzerland, December 13, 2019 - Based on voting by players and coaches, the FIVB World Tour Beach Volleyball Awards recognise the outstanding performers of the year. We now turn to the Best Female Setter of 2018/2019.

Best Female Setter of 2018/2019 -
Melissa Humana-Paredes (CAN)

Melissa Humana-Paredes’ star continues to rise and she hit new heights alongside Sarah Pavan as the pair became the first Canadian team to win the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships when they defeated USA’s April Ross and Alexandra Klineman 2-0 (23-21, 23-21) in the Hamburg 2019 gold medal match.

The 27-year-old first made her name when she and Taylor Pischke won bronze at the 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships in Myslowice, Poland.

She added another bronze at the 2014 edition, by which time she had made her FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour debut and begun demonstrating she is a player with energy to burn and razor-edge anticipation at the back of the court.

The one-time University of Toronto student showed that she had fulfilled such early promise in Hamburg, and she needed to be at her best as her rival across the net in the final was April Ross, a former world champion herself and double Olympic medal winner.

Tests of ability don’t come much tougher and Humana-Paredes showed that she is now among the best in the world.

Keep an eye on FIVB.com, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as we unveil this year's award winners.
