Pavan/Humana-Paredes win Most Outstanding Female Beach Volleyball Team

Lausanne, Switzerland, December 12, 2019 - Based on voting by players and coaches, the FIVB World Tour Beach Volleyball Awards recognise the outstanding performers of the year. We now turn to the Most Outstanding Women's Team of 2018/2019.

Most Outstanding Women's Team of 2018/2019 - Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes

It has been a remarkable three years since Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes teamed up and by the end of the 2018-19 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour the pair were top of the beach volleyball world.

When the Hamburg 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships began the Canadians had only won a silver at the Itapema 4-Star in Brazil this year.

However, they found their rhythm early in Hamburg and quickly built their momentum all the way to the gold medal match that they won with a 2-0 (23-21, 23-21) victory over the USA’s April Ross and Alexandra Klineman.

From there they added two more sets of gold. The first was in front of their home crowd at the Edmonton 3-Star, and the second at the Vienna 5-Star.

Tokyo 2020 is quickly approaching on the horizon and their World Championships victory ensured a place for one Canadian team at the Olympics. Pavan reached the Rio de Janeiro 2016 quarterfinals in tandem with Heather Bansley, but for Humana-Paredes it would be her Olympic debut. If she adapts as quickly as she has to life alongside Pavan then there is no reason why they won’t be adding more medals to their collection in 2019-20.

Keep an eye on FIVB.com, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as we unveil this year's award winners.
