Álvaro unites with Alison for Xiamen event

Álvaro Filho will be diving "forward" with Brazilian Olympic medal winner Alison Ceruitti starting next month in Xiamen, China
Vitória, Brazil, March 20, 2019 - On the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere, Álvaro Filho is moving forward on the FIVB World Tour as the Brazilian will be playing with Alison Cerutti at an international Beach Volleyball event next month in Xiamen, China.

"I'm very happy for the invitation, to be able to form this partnership with Alison," said the 28-year Álvaro, who started the 2018-2019 season play with the legendary Ricardo Santos.  "Alison is someone I admire not only for the achievements, but for the attitudes."

As for his former partner, Álvaro added that he "he learned a lot from Ricardo.  Today he is more than a partner, he is more than a friend.  His attitude is something praiseworthy, showing his 'size', his character and the way he thinks about Beach Volleyball. He's was the godfather our team."

As for his new partner, Álvaro said he and Alison "are going to make a competitive team.  It all starts in practice. Let's live one day at a time, one step at a time because the walk is long. Let us prepare ourselves in the best way."

Alison split with Andre Loyola Stein earlier this week after the pair started playing together last June and only produced one medal (a silver in Moscow) in eighth FIVB World Tour appearances together.  In their three events together this season, Álvaro and Ricardo placed fifth, 25th and 25th with a 5-6 match mark together.

Álvaro and Ricardo had previous history as a team, including a silver medal together at the 2013 FIVB World Championships in Stare Jablonki, Poland.  Overall, Álvaro and Ricardo played in 23 FIVB events with one gold medal, five podium placements and six "final four" appearances together.

Loyola Stein will now play with George Wanderley, who played in his last eight FIVB World Tour events with Thiago Santos Barbosa.  George and Thiago placed ninth earlier this month in Sydney before the pair was eliminated last week in a country quota match in Qatar by Álvaro and Ricardo in three sets.
