Pool play completed at Youth Olympics with eight more pool winners

Buenos Aires, Argentina, October 12, 2018 - The sixth of six days of pool play at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympics was completed here Friday with teams from Bolivia, Ecuador, Great Britain, The Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Switzerland and Venezuela netting group titles.

With all the men's and women's pool winners earning "byes" for the first round of elimination play, the "knock-out" phase for the second edition of Beach Volleyball at the Youth Olympic Games begins Saturday with the second- and third-play finishers playing against each other where the winning teams advance to Sunday's schedule to meet the group winners.

Men's pool winners Friday were ninth-seeded Yorick de Groot/Matthew Immers of The Netherlands (Pool H), 20th-seeded Joffre Jurado/Dany Leon of Ecuador (Pool D), the 21st-seeded Bello twins (Joaquin and Luis) of Great Britain (Pool E) and 32nd-seeded Nathan Broch/Timon Gysin of Switzerland (Pool A).

Netting women's group crown Friday were second-seeded Mariia Bocharova/Maria Voronina of Russia (Pool B), sixth-seeded Urimar Narvaez/Diana Ramirez of Venezuela (Pool F), 10th-seeded Maria Canedo/Nicole Nogales of Bolivia (Pool G) and 14th-seeded Frida Berntsen/Emilie Olimstad of Norway (Pool C).
In the competition between confederations, the Europeans on 40 of the 96 matches contests during the six days of pool play, including 18 wins for women and 22 for men.  The South American confederation has netted 22 victories (13 women, nine men) followed by 17 for NORCECA (10 women, seven men), 12 for the Asian confederation (six women, six men) and five for pairs from the African continent (one woman, four men).

The first and second round of elimination for the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic will be played Saturday and Sunday for both men and women.  Both the men's and women's quarter-finals will be played Monday followed by the semi-finals Tuesday and the medal matches Wednesday.
