Although practices are scheduled for Wednesday, the Beach Volleyball competition will take its first of two “rest” days before resuming Thursday. The second “break” for the 36-nation field will be Saturday when the 24-team single-elimination bracket will be confirmed.
Erika Bobadilla and Michelle Valiente are playing in their third FIVB-sanctioned event this season as the young Paraguayan pair tops Pool D with a perfect record after opening wins over teams from Thailand and France before posting a 2-0 (21-8 and 21-9) victory Tuesday over Doris Essel and Esther Essumang of Ghana in 23 minutes.
Following Wednesday’s rest day for the Beach athletes, the 17-year old Bobadilla and 16-year old Valiente will finish pool play with matches against tandems from Guatemala and Austria. Prior to the Youth Olympics, the Paraguayan placed 17th at the FIVB’s under 21 world championships in Cyprus and ninth at the under 19 worlds in Portugal.
