Armenia determines its 2014 national champions

Armenia's national championship comes to a conclusion with the customary photo of the medallists

Yerevan, Armenia, July 7, 2014 - With three days of interesting matches, Armenia’s national beach volleyball championships for men and for women took place this past weekend in Yerevan.  Grigori Ambaryan / Hovhannes Asmaryan won the men’s competition and Mari Hovhannisian / Nare Hovhannisian became national champions on the women’s side.

Eight teams took part in the ladies’ tournament.  Mari Hovhannisian / Nare Hovhannisian, competing as Syuniq, met Anahit Yeprikyan / Knarik Nazaryan, the team of Njdeh, in the final match.  Syuniq achieved a 2-0 victory, leaving Njdeh in second place. Anna Galustyan and Ani Hovsepyan, comprising the Njdeh-2 team, won third place.

Knarik Nazaryan from Njdeh was recognised as the Best Spiker of the championship.  Lusine Yolchian from the KhMOMM team was recognised as the Best Young Player of the tournament. Mari Hovhannisian from Syuniq was honored as the Best Player of the competition.

The men’s championship proceeded with the participation of ten pairs.  Grigori Ambaryan / Hovhannes Asmaryan or FIMA-1, the first team of the Sports Club of the Institute of Physical Culture, defeated their clubmates Smbat Gevorgian / Hovhannes Mosoyan from FIMA-2 in the final match to claim the title.  Andre Simoni / Ashot Balabekyan from the Youth team won the bronze.

Hovhannes Asmaryan from FIMA-1 became the Best Spiker of the tournament.  Andre Simoni from the Youth team and Smbat Gevorgian from the FIMA-2 team were recognised as the Best Young Players and Ashot Balabekyan from the Youth team was proclaimed the Best Player of the championship.

Both the men’s and the women’s championships were sponsored by Grand Sport, Hayasy Group and VivaCell-MTS.

Meanwhile, Armenia’s national beach volleyball championships for U16 boys and girls has started.
