Poland and Australia grab gold at U23 World Championships

 
The 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships podium

Myslowice, Poland, June 15, 2014 - Polish pair Maciej Kosiak and Maciej Rudol and Australia’s Nicole Laird and Mariafe Artacho won the gold medals at the second edition of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships on Sunday in Myslowice.

 

It was the second gold in a row for home country Poland, since Bartosz Losiak and Piotr Kantor won the title last year. Kosiak and Rudol defeated Norway’s Tvinde and Mol in the final, Brazil’s Allison and Guto Carvalhaes took the bronze,

 

In the women’s tournament USA’s Dykstra/Pardon won silver, while Canada’s Humana-Paredes/Pischke claimed their second U23 bronze.

 

Home win for Polish pair Kosiak/Rudol in U23 final

 

Poland’s Maciej Kosiak and Maciej Rudol won the FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships on Sunday in front of a huge home crowd.

The two Maciejs beat Norway’s Lars Fredrik Tvinde and Hendrik Nikolai Mol 2-1 (25-23, 18-21, 15-12) in a tight game with great rallies and powerful spikes. Read more

 

Australia’s Laird/Artacho claim U23 crown in Myslowice

 

Nicole Laird and Mariafe Artacho had to fight hard to claim the gold medal at the FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships on Sunday.

The Australians defeated USA’s new team Lara Dykstra and Jace Pardon 2-1 (21-19, 17-21, 15-7) on centre court at Slupna Park in Myslowice. Read more

 

Kosiak/Rudol reach U23 final in front of home crowd in Myslowice

 

Poland’s Maciej Kosiak and Maciej Rudol ended up on top in a very close semifinal at the FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships on Sunday.

 

The home team came back from behind and defeated Brazil’s Allison Cittadin Francioni and Gustavo Albrecht Carvalhaes 2-1 (19-21 21-17 15-11). Read more

 

Australia fights back to move into U23 final

 

Australia’s Nicole Laird and Mariafe Artacho defeated last year’s bronze medallists Melissa Humana-Paredes and Taylor Pischke on Sunday to move into the final of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships.

The Aussies came back from behind in a very close semifinal against the Canadians: 18-21, 22-20, 15-9. Read more

 

A total of 36 teams per gender competed in the main draw of the second edition of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U23 World Championships. It was the first out of four events on the 2014 age-group calendar, which also includes the U17, U19 and U21. The next edition of the U23 will be held in 2016.

 

Myslowice, located 70km from Poland’s ancient capital Krakow, also hosted the inaugural U23 World Championships in 2013 and the U19 and U21 version in 2006 and 2007.

The Silesian mining town has also regularly hosted stops on the FIVB World Tour, two women’s tournaments in 2008 and 2011 and in 2009, 2010 and 2012 it was the men who took to the sand.
