Puerto Rico holding beach volleyball camps to prepare for World Championships

 
Puerto Rico will be represented in various age-category World Championships this year
 Lausanne, Switzerland, May 16, 2014 – Puerto Rico’s junior national beach volleyball programme is holding its first get together as it gets ready for participation in various World Championships and the Olympic Youth Games.

This weekend’s training camp is taking place at Boqueron spa and the pairs will train and play in facilities at the Centralamericano stadium.

“We have a comprehensive work plan for teams to acclimatise to the system of competition in World Championships,” said national coach Angel “Cholo” Peña.

Puerto Rico will be represented in the various age-category World Championships this summer.

In the Under-23 tournament in Poland next month, Gabriela Román/ Maria Delgado and Kevin J. Rodriguez/ Christian Encarnation will represent Puerto Rico.

The other participants in the World Championships are:
U21 (Cyprus) – Arnel Cabrera/ Sergio Figueroa and Gabriela Román/ Carola Biver;
U19 (Portugal) – Lina Bernier/ Valeria Cajigas and Daniel Rivera/ Ricardo Padilla;
U17 (Mexico) – Robilee Frederick/ Natalia Cruz and Gustavo Buitrago/ Ricardo Muratti.

Arnaldo Sánchez, the director of the Beach Volleyball Council of the Puerto Rican Volleyball Federation, explained that this will be the first of several training camps under the plans of the Council.

“This is our first camp, but we will have more in the coming months and we will be working with others in different areas of the island,” Sanchez said, adding that this weekend’s camp will also include work with Puerto Rico’s representatives at the Olympic Youth Games to be held in Nanjing, China, in August.

Sánchez gave thanks for the support of the municipality of Cabo Rojo, its mayor, Roberto Ramirez, Foundation 2010 and the National Parks Company.
