FIVB World Tour champs hitting top form

Taiana Lima and Talita Antunes are gearing up to the 2014 World Tour in good form
Salvador, Brazil, April 15, 2014 – Women’s champions Talita Antunes and Taiana Lima showed that they are hitting form at just the right time with under a month to go until the start of the 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.

The pair won five from five to claim the title at the most recent leg of the Brazilian Tour, at Armacao Beach in Salvador. In the final they overcame Elize Maia and Fernanda Berti 2-1 (21-16, 18-21, 15-10).

Talita and Lima will begin the defence of their World Tour title at the Fuzhou Open in China from April 22-27 and this was the third time that they have won a Brazilian Tour event this year. The duo also claimed gold at the South American Games.

"We suffered with the heat and soft sand, but managed to win against a duo that played well,” Talita said. “So far this season we have lost a few matches and we also focused on the Super Beach tournament.  Today our goal was winning gold, so the joy of winning this here is enormous.”

Liliane ‘Lili’ Maestrini and Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa Santos meanwhile claimed the bronze medal with a 2-0 (22-20, 24-22) win over sisters Maria-Clara and Carolina Salgado.

Lili and Duda are a new pairing for 2014, but both enjoyed some success in FIVB tournaments in 2013 and they recently won bronze at the South American Games.

“I think the fans enjoyed our style of play,” Duda said. “We’re delighted because we’ve achieved our goal of winning a medal. We are gradually developing and now the results are starting to come.”
