Tanarattha and Varapatsorn remain on course for home win in Khanom

The women are up to the semifinals in Thailand
Khanom, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand, April 10, 2014 - Favourites Tanarattha Udomchavee and Varapatsorn Radarong kept the host nations hopes alive at the fifth Khanom-Chang tournament after winning twice on day two of the competition. 

Tanarattha and Varapatsorn will now face Australia’s leading duo of Nicole Laird and FIVB age-group medallist Artacho Mariafe in the semifinals.

The local favourites opened with a 2-0 (21-8 21-5) win over New Zealand’s Melissa Ruru and Danielle Quigley to reach the quarterfinals, where they recorded another 2-0 (21-8, 21-11) victory, this time against compatriots Usa Tenpaksee and Phokongploy  Yupa.

The other semifinal pits Vanuatu’s Miller Elvin and Henriette Latika, a team that made their mark at the 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, against Kazakhstani duo Tatyana Mashkova and Irina Tsimbalova.

In the men's event, the 2012 Asian Beach Games gold medallists Koko Prasetyo Darkkuncoro and Ade Candra Rahmawan reached the quarterfinals. The Indonesian pair defeated Oman’s Al Shereiqi Haitham and Al Housni Ahmed 2-0 (28-26 22-20).

They will now face Kazakhstan’s leading duo of Alexandr Dyachenko and Alexey Sidorenko.

Their fellow Kazakhs Dmitriy Yakovlev and Alexey Kuleshov take on New Zealand’s Samuel O'Dea and Michael Watson and there also two Iranian teams aiming for a place in the semifinals. 

Raoufi Rahman and Salemiinjehboroun Bahman take on Australia’s Joshua Court and Damien Schumann, while Farrokhi Parviz and Salagh Aghamohammad meet Qatar’s Tiago De Santos and Santos.
