CAVB to organise U17 Beach Volleyball African Championship
Cairo, Egypt, January 14, 2014 – The African Volleyball confederation (CAVB) will organise a new edition of the Beach Volleyball U17 Continental Championships for boys and girls in 2014. The new competition will be a qualifier for the FIVB World Championship in this age category.
The FIVB competition will showcase the top six African teams to qualify.
The African beach volleyball competition will be held in two phases: the zonal phase, which will qualify the top teams for the CAVB Cup finals where the six top ranked teams will secure their tickets to the World Championships.
Africa has organised the CAVB Cup for the U19, U21 and U23 age groups over the past two years. The U17 age category will be introduced for the first time in 2014.
"The new event will be a good occasion for African national federations to create a new generation of young players, which will surely reflect in terms of more progress for the sport in Africa," said CAVB Beach Director May Alaa.
"Now all national federations have to work hard from the school age to develop volleyball for the future especially after the great success of the other age groups created in the last couple of years."
