South America's beach volleyball players gear up for Youth Olympic Games qualifiers
Buenos Aires, Argentina, December 4, 2013 – South America is preparing for its second stop beach volleyball qualification round for 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, which is scheduled to take place at the Arenas del Plata Stadium in Montevideo, Uruguay from December 6 to 8.
Men’s and women’s teams from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela will be vying for the allocated berths to next year’s Olympic event.
Representing Argentina will be the boys’ team of Joel Leon and Exequiel Yacob, while Irene Verasio and Camila Hiruela will take part for the girls. Brasil will be represented by Eduarda Santos Lisboa and Andressa Cavalcanti Ramalho and the boys’ teams will include Alexandre Figueiredo Elias and Arthur Diego Mariano Lanci. Both countries are on the top of the ranking after the first stop, in Paraguay, last month.
"Our goal to keep growing and improve on our
first stop performance at the girls’ competition,” said Mariano Baracetti, former
Argentine beach volleyball player and World Champion, who is now part of the
training staff of the Argentine Beach Volleyball teams.
At the first stop, played in November 2013, Brazil topped the leader board with Alexandre Figueiredo Elias/Arthur Diego Mariano Lanci taking gold for the boys and Eduarda Santos Lisboa/Paula Moniz Hofmann for the girls. Argentina’s Santiago Aulisi and Leandro Aveiro took the boys' silver medal.
