2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Season Update

Men's and women's Gstaad Grand Slam gold medallists - Brazil's Alvaro Filho (L), China's Chen Xue and Zhang Xi and Brazil's Ricardo Santos
Lausanne, Switzerland, July 16, 2013 – The fifth double-gender Grand Slam of the 2013 FIVB World Tour was held this past week in Gstaad, Switzerland.

For the men, it was an all Brazilian final, with Alvaro Filho/Ricardo Santos defeating Pedro Salgado/Bruno Oscar Schmidt 2-0 (21-16, 21-18) in 46 minutes for the gold medal. It was the pair’s first FIVB victory together and the first career win for Alvaro Filho. For Ricardo it was his 55th FIVB World Tour victory.

On the women’s side, China’s Chen Xue/Xi Zhang claimed their third FIVB victory of the season with a two-set win over Liliane Maestrini/Barbara Seixas of Brazil (21-16, 21-14) in 42 minutes. Together Xue/Zhang’s secured their 15th FIVB World Tour career victory.

The 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour takes a week off before moving to the Western Hemisphere for the FIVB Long Beach Grand Slam in the United States.

The same week as Long Beach there will also be a double-gender FIVB Open event in Anapa, Russia.
