South American beach volleyball season ends in Sobral

Brazil currently lead the women's rankings while Chile head the men's
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, June 28, 2013 – The last stop of the 2012/2013 South American Beach Volleyball Tour will be held in Sobral, Brazil starting Friday before finishing on Sunday. A total of 16 female and 16 male couples will play for the title of South America continental champions as well as for points on the FIVB rankings.

Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela in addition to the host pairs from several Brazilian states, (six in the women and seven in the male), promises a great show for the 3,000 capacity crowd in Dr. Plinio Pompeu gym hall.

The South American Beach Volleyball Tour had nine stops in total, including the likes of Paraguay and Bolivia.

At the head of the organization is the Brazilian sports secretary and former beach volleyball star Shelda Bede who, with Adriana Behar, formed in 1995 the most victorious Brazilian pair in volleyball history: 900 wins, 100 titles and two Olympic silver medals in Sydney and Athens.

Brazil leads the South American women’s ranking followed by Argentina and Chile while Chile leads the men ahead of Brazil and Venezuela.

To protect the athletes and public from the strong sun in the Brazilian northeast, the games on Friday and Saturday will start in the late afternoon. Only the finals on Sunday will be held at 09:00 local time.

All the games will be streamed  live on http://voleysur.org
