Brazil's women rule the sands in Monaco
Monte Carlo, Monaco, June 18, 2013 – The Principality of Monaco held the 6th FxPro Monte-Carlo Beach Volleyball Tournament for Women on Larvotto beach from June 15 to 16. Eight of the best women's national teams on the FIVB’s international circuit took part in the tournament.
It was a charged atmosphere and the competition was fierce in spite of the cloudy weather. Brazil won the final of the tournament in a tie-break against the Germans in 3 straight sets (21-16, 21-18, 15-13). The Brazilian team of Elize Maia/Fernanda Berti were unbeaten throughout the whole tournament, which came as no surprise considering their level of technique and team play. The German team of Sude/Plowman, winners of the 2011 tournament, put up a good fight but were unable to beat the women from Brazil.
Third place went to Canada who showed their tenacious fighting spirit during their decisive match with Austria. The U.S. team of Caitlin Ledoux/Tara Roenicke placed sixth having to forfeit a match due a Roenicke’s shoulder injury.
The semifinal matches were attended by his H.S.H. Prince Albert II and the presentation ceremony conducted by Christian Palmaro, President of the Monegasque Volleyball Federation.
