Brazil pairs make their mark on the 8th stop of South American Beach Volleyball circuit

With their win on the 8th stop, Brazil has taken the South American title of the season in the women’s competition.

Girardot, Colombia, June 11, 2013 – Brazilian teams have topped the podium in the eighth and penultimate round of the 2012/2013 Beach Volleyball South American Tour that took place in Colombia from June 7 to 9. Elize Maia/Fernanda Berti along with fellow compatriots Thiago/Oscar took gold in the women’s and men’s championships are now guaranteed top rankings in Brazil.

In the women’s competition, Brazil’s Fernanda Berti/Elize Mary Secomandi took the top spot by defeating Argentina’s Ana Gallay/Georgina Klug 2-1 (21-19, 16-21, 15-7). In the battle for third place Chile defeated Paraguay to take third place on the podium.

This was the seventh time that Elize Maia and Fernanda Berti have reached the finals on the South American Beach Volleyball circuit and the fourth time they have won gold. Following this achievement, Brazil has further expanded their lead now with 1,580 points, 1,320 against Argentina (in second place overall).

In the men’s competition, the Brazilian duo of Oscar/Thiago defeated Edson Felipe/Hebaldo 2-1 (21-17, 23-25,15-11) to win gold. The results from the eighth stop have repositioned Brazil in the men’s top ranking at the end of the 2012/2013 season. Brazil now have a total of 1,400 points, followed by Chile (1,360) and Venezuela (1,300).
