London Open withdrawn from 2013 calendar

Beach volleyball was one of the most popular sports at the London 2012 Olympic Games
London, Great Britain, May 26, 2013 – The England Volleyball Federation regrets to announce that the London Open, which was tentatively scheduled for August 14-18, will not take place.

The female-only tournament was the third Open of the year, following mixed-gender events in Fuzhou in April and Anapa in Russia from July 23-28.

There will now be seven Open events in 2013, with the Vizag, Kampala, Xiamen, Phuket and Durban tournaments to follow.

London has hosted events for the past two years. Beach volleyball was one of the most popular sports at the London 2012 Olympic Games with the 15,000 arena at Horse Guards’ Parade packed out for every session.

A year earlier a 5,000 venue at Horse Guards’ Parade hosted the London 2012 test event.

In addition to Open events, the 2013 beach volleyball season also consists of the FIVB World Tour - 10 Grand Slams and the World Championships in Stare Jablonki, Poland.
