Kazakh beach pairs show dominance at Asian U-21 quarterfinals

 
Australia make a block against Oman at the quarterfinals of the AVC Beach Volleyball U-21 Championships

Chennai, India, May 18, 2013 – Kazakhstan showed its dominance as two men’s pairs and one women’s pair reached the semifinals of the AVC Beach Volleyball U-21 Championships on Saturday.

Kazakh pair Vladislav Pustynnikov and Sergy Bogatu beat Indian tandem of Shanakar Vaspari and Maheshkumar Charka in straight sets (21-12, 21-10) while the other Kazakh pair Viktor Pestov and Kirili Gurin followed suit by defeating another Indian team Aaron Pereira  and Javid Samsu in straight sets (21-18, 21-15).

Joining the Kazakhs in the semifinals are Australia’s Tomas Hodges and Malachi Murch who eased past Omani pair Faisal Alshezawi and Ahmad Albalushi in yet another straight sets match (21-15, 21-6). Indonesia’s Mohammad Ashiya and Rendy Licardo rallied after being down in the first set to claim a strong 2-1 finish (15-21, 21-17, 15-9) against top Indian pair Yogaraja Chitairaipandi and Rajkumar Chandran.

In the women’s division, Kazakh duo Bakhtygul Samlikova and Lyubov Bogatu trounced top Indian pair Deepika Rajamanikam and Eshwari Sekar (21-10, 21-11).

Although three Indian teams clinched spots at the quarterfinals, all three pairs were beaten by their opponents and failed to advance to the semifinals. The Japanese tandem of Chiyo Suzuki and Satono Ishitsubo downed the team of Anila Savio and Aswathi Veluthondi (21-10, 21-11) in just 25 minutes; while Australia’s Mariafe Artacho and Jessyka Ngauamo pulled off a hard win over India’s Anusha Vengadan and K. Athira Kanayamparambath (24-22, 21-18).

Completing the women’s semifinals cast are Indonesia’s Nanda Ragillia and Tyas Maria Dwining who fought and conquered a thrilling tiebreaking set (18-21, 21-17, 15-13).

The men’s semifinals will be between Kazakhstan’s Viktor Pestov and Kirili Gurin going up against Indonesia’s Mohammad Ashiya and Rendy Licardo. Other Kazakh pair Vladislav Pustynnikov and Sergy Bogatu will face strong Australian pair Tomas Hodges and Malachi Murch.

The women’s semifinals will see a more diverse match-up as Australia’s Mariafe Artacho and Jessyka Ngauamo clash with Indonesia’s Nanda Ragillia and Tyas Maria Dwining, while Kazakh tandem Bakhtygul Samlikova and Lyubov Bogatu will challenge Japanese duo Chiyo Suzuki and Satoni Ishitsubo.
