National Federation list confirmed for Corrientes Grand Slam

China's Chen Xue and Xi Zhang have made a superb start to the 2013 season having won the Fuzhou Open and reached the second round of the Main Draw at the Shanghai Grand Slam

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 3, 2013 – Fuzhou Open champions Chen Xue and Xi Zhang of China will miss the second Grand Slam of the year – the Corrientes Grand Slam in Argentina – having not been entered into the tournament following the passing of the deadline for entries on Friday.
Federations had until the end of Friday (Lausanne time) to confirm their teams in the Corrientes Grand Slam Main Draw and Qualification tournaments, which will take place from May 22 to 26 and there are no Chinese teams entered in the women’s or men’s competition.
The absence of China sees Brazil, Germany and Argentina (including one wild card) claim three vacancies, the Netherlands, USA, Russia, the Czech Republic and Australia two as a total of 13 federations fill the 24 spots in the Main Draw, including the second wild card recipients Vanuatu.

Leading the way in the men’s competition are Brazil, USA, Germany, Latvia and Argentina (including one wild card) with three teams while the Netherlands and Poland have two as 12 countries are represented in the Main Draw. Latvia received the second wild card.

The number of national federation vacancies in the Main Draw and the Qualification tournament are determined via the national federation ranking.

The final entry list and actually seeding for the tournament will be updated following the Technical Meeting on the eve of the tournament. The seeding will be based on the sum of the individual rankings taking into consideration the status as at -21 days.
Due to the limited number of reserve teams, the FIVB has decided to offer such teams (after country quota) the chance to take part in the Qualification tournament for the Corrientes Grand Slam. A total of 42 teams from 14 countries are entered in the men’s Qualification Tournament and 23 from 11 countries in the women’s.

The Corrientes Grand Slam is the second of 10 Grand Slams which make up the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour which also includes the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Stare Jablonki, Poland from July 1 to 7. The first Grand Slam in Shanghai concludes on Sunday.
The distribution of national federation vacancies in the Main Draw, Qualification and Reserve lists are based on federation ranking points which take into consideration the best six-out- of-the-last-eight results dating back 365 days on a player by player basis for the respective country.
