Nigeria men’s & women’s teams win gold in CAVB U21 Beach Volleyball Cup
Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, May 2, 2013 – Nigeria men’s and women’s teams clinched gold medals in the 2013 CAVB Men and Women U21 Beach Volleyball Cup for African Zones 1, 2 and 3 (northern and western Africa) held in Abidjan from April 12 to 14, 2013.
The men’s competition featured six countries, divided into two pools of three teams each. Nigerian pair Abdul Azeez-Sam defeated Togo's Agbegninou-Apezoumon 2-0 (21-18, 21-14).
Tunisia claimed the bronze medal, as duo Korbi-Arfaoui beat Sierra Leone's Samura-Bangura 2-0 (21-18, 21-11).
The women’s competition featured five teams, which started with a round robin tournament that was won by Nigeria who achieved a record 4-0. Nigeria continued to the Gala match where they emerged victorious against Sierra Leone 2-0 (21-16, 21-19). Sierra Leone was awarded the silver medal and Ghana won the bronze.
