Lausanne, Switzerland, April 19, 2013 – Olympic men’s silver medallists Alison Cerutti and Emanuel Rego have withdrawn from the opening event of the 2013 beach volleyball season – the Fuzhou Open – due to an injury suffered by Alison to his little finger on his left hand while training.
The 2011 world champions have only been ruled out of the Fuzhou Open, which runs from Tuesday to Sunday, having presented a medical certificate to the FIVB but are expected to participate in the Shanghai Grand Slam which will take place from April 30 to May 5.
In accordance with the regulations which states the top ranked reserve team of any country (on this occasion happened to be Brazil) will fill a vacancy in the qualification or main draw, taking into consideration the country quota of four teams, Vitor Gonçalves Felipe and Evandro Gonçalves Oliveira Júnior enter the Main Draw, joining Pedro Solberg Salgado and Bruno Oscar Schmidt, and Ricardo Alex Costa Santos and Álvaro Morais Filho while Hevaldo Sabino Moreira and Thiago Santos Barbosa are in the qualification tournament.
The seeding for the Fuzhou Open, based on the players' points tally, will take place following the confirmed participation of all teams in the tournament, which will take place during the Technical Meeting on Monday evening (local time).
