Zimbabwe take match against Kenya on day 1 of the CAVB U23 Beach Volleyball Cup

Mombasa, Kenya, April 19, 2013 - Zimbabwe men's U23 beach volleyball team surprised  hosts Kenya  with a shock defeat 2-0 (21-10, 21-11) on the opening day of the 2013 CAVB U23 Beach Volleyball Cup held in Mombasa.

Zimbabwe's Katemanyoka-Chioziwa beat Kenya's Eknott-Walukaya easily in Pool A of the competition. Pool B featured a straight sets victory for Egypt's Rashid-Askalani against the Chad duo (21-16, 21-15).

The tables were turned in the women’s competition when Kenyan duo Gaudencia-Naomie beat Zimbabwe’s Guyo-Manyanya 2-0 (21-18, 21-14). Rwanda's Denise-Charlotte later won their match against Uganda's Shella-Femia 2-0 (21-8, 21-9).

On Wednesday the city of Mombasa was the venue for the drawing of lots for the 2013 CAVB U23 Beach Volleyball Cup, where the men teams were divided into two pools of three while the four women teams will play in one round robin pool of four teams.

The two finalists in the men’s competition and the top three teams in the women’s competition will secure tickets to the FIVB U23 World Championships in Myslowice, Poland this June.
