Mexico’s Virgen and Ontiveros on fast track in Boca Chica Tournament

Boca Chica, Dominican Republic, March 29, 2013 – Mexico’s Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros and Canada’s Christian Redman and Maciej Zbyszewski claimed two victories on the opening day of the men’s Boca Chica Beach Volleyball Tournament, the second leg of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit.

Playing in Pool D, Virgen/Ontiveros first subdued Avery Drost and Will Montgomery of USA-B (21-13, 21-17) followed by a 25-17, 25-11 victory over Hector Soto and Victor Rivera of Puerto Rico-B.

In Pool A, Redman/Zbyszewski began their day with a 23-21, 21-11 triumph against Roberto Rodriguez and Erik Haddock of Puerto Rico-A and then continued with a 21-15, 27-25 victory over Yewddys Perez and William Sanchez of Dominican Republic-A.

On the women’s side, the two teams of USA and Guatemala succeeded in both their opening day outings on Friday.

Brittany Hochevar and Summer Ross of USA-B began their day with a tough victory in three sets (23-25, 21-18, 15-13) over Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas of Canada-B and closed the women’s action with a 21-8, 21-10 win over Honduras’ Gina Flores and Martha Euceda.

Their compatriots Jennifer Fopma and Brooke Sweat of USA-A crushed Deborah Constanzo and Karla Montilla of Dominican Republic-B 21-2, 21-15 before prevailing 21-19, 19-21, 15-8 over Heather Bansley and Elizabeth Maloney of Canada-B.

Maria Jose Orellana and Lourdes Ramirez of Guatemala scored a walkover victory (21-0, 21-0) over Dominican Republic-C and then downed Flores/Euceda 21-12, 21-10.
