Van de Goor appointed The Hague Tournament Director

Van de Goor has had success in the Dutch and Italian leagues and won a gold medal with the Dutch volleyball team at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996
Lausanne, Switzerland, March 26, 2013 - Olympic volleyball champion Bas van de Goor has been appointed Tournament Director for the 2013 FIVB World Tour Transavia Grand Slam in The Hague. The event will take place from June 11 to 16 and is the first ever World Tour Grand Slam to be held in The Netherlands.

“It is a great honour to be part of a top tournament like this. I hope my experience and knowledge will help lift this event to an even higher level,” said Van de Goor  at a press conference in The Hague.

In order to attract more spectators, promoters TIG Sports have announced that some of the Transavia Grand Slam matches will take place at the beach stadium in Scheveningen at later times. There are also plans to build an extra court in the historic centre of The Hague where some of the pool phase matches are scheduled to take place.

The tournament director's position will be a new challenge for van de Goor who has never made the cross over into beach volleyball unlike former partner Richard Schuil.
