Beach Volleyball World Cup Final city and dates confirmed

The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final in Brazil will welcome teams from Russia, Switzerland, Germany and Australia to name a few

Lausanne, Switzerland, March 22, 2013 – The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has confirmed that the Brazilian city of Campinas will host the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final from May 29 to June 2 later this year.

The World Cup Final will complete a three year process, which started with the Continental Cup – which ran from 2010 to 2012 as a London Olympic Games qualifying event – and included the FIVB World Cup Olympic Qualification tournament in Moscow, Russia in June 2012, which also qualified teams for the London Olympics.

“I am very pleased to be able to host the inaugural FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final,” Ricardo Bernd, President of RB2 Events, the official promoter for the tournament, said. “I know that the players and spectators will be impressed, not just with the beach volleyball action on offer but also with the level of organisation and setting of the event in one of Brazil’s traditional beach volleyball cities.”

Campinas – a city in the São Paulo state – is no stranger to beach volleyball as it is a regular stop of the Brazilian national beach volleyball circuit, having already hosted five stages (1993-95, 2005 and 2012).

The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final will determine the champion country from the Continental Cup, featuring 10 countries per gender represented by one team each. Prize money of $150,000 per gender is on offer to the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final participants.

The 10 countries will include the winners of each of the Continental Cup Finals and the national federations who qualified a maximum of two teams at the 2012 Olympic Games via the Olympic rankings.* If the 10 vacancies were not filled with these criteria, the best country on the 2012 Olympic Games rankings, not already qualified, will be allowed to participate.

The following countries have already been confirmed as the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final participants:
