Poland start 2013 World Championships preparation
Fijalek and Prudel made it to the quarterfinal round of the London Olympics in 2012, and finished the 2012 FIVB World Tour ranked 15th, cracking the medal tables at the Berlin Grand Slam with a bronze-medal performance. This year they’ll look to establish a record more like 2011, when the pair finished the Tour in fourth rank and won two silver medals along the way.
Poland’s second team of Michal Kadziola and Jakub Szalankiewicz finished the 2012 FIVB World Tour ranked 24th, a huge jump from 41st in 2011. The young pair (they’re both 23) will look to break through in 2013.
Poland’s top women, Kinga Kolosinska and Monika Brzostek, have yet to break into the top 50 rankings. At 22 and 23 years old, however, they still have plenty of potential to improve and add to their gold medal from the 2009 Junior World Championships. Beata Galek and Aneta Gancarczyk are the other two Poland players who will compete at the senior level in 2013. Both are 22 years old.
Polish beach volleyball team representatives have already started preparations for the new season as the country prepares to host the premiere international beach volleyball event of 2013. This is the first time a competition of this scale will be held in Poland, although the Mazury Orlen Grand Slam has become an annual fixture in Stare Jablonki. Fijalek and Prudel will be especially eager to shine, having finished the last edition in 2011 tied for fifth.
On January 20, Polish players will start going to beach volleyball camp in Tenerife. At the moment Poland’s other world-class teams are preparing for the new season at the School of Sports Championship in Lodz.
