Frankfurt, Germany, December 20, 2012 – After 1,500 sports journalists cast their votes, beach volleyball Olympic champions Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann, emerged as Germany’s second best Team of the Year for 2012.

The German pair came second after the Olympic men’s rowing team, which claimed gold at the Games in London and got the most votes from the sport journalists. The national hockey team ranked third.

“This is a great way to end a memorable year,” said Jonas Reckermann. “Congratulations to our rowers as they fully deserved that first place. We are very proud with our second place and we also would like to congratulate all other teams who have been successful throughout the past 12 months.”

This year was an extremely successful one for Brink and Reckermann in all aspects. Besides their Olympic medal, making them the first European team to win beach volleyball gold at the Olympics, they also won the European beach championship. There were also two other highlights, with the birth of Reckermann's son Emil and Brink's wedding. The pair also achieved first and the second place in regional choices in Nordrhein-Westfalen and Berlin.
