Kira Walkenhorst, 21, is ready to take a "leap forward" by partnering with Ludwig | Lausanne Switzerland, September 20, 2012 – With the retirewment of her long-time teammate Sara Goller, Laura Ludwig has found a new partner with whom she hopes to make a run at the next Olympic Games in 2016. Starting in 2013, she will play with Kira Walkenhorst.
The 21-year-old Walkenhorst confirmed the decision to beach-volleyball.de on September 17.
"Yes that's right, I will play with Laura next season,” she said. “Sure, it's always been my goal to play along the top. That it has now come to pass after a year is, of course, great. I am strongly motivated and I want to make a leap forward."
Ludwig also expressed her eagerness to start this new direction, although she feels the loss of her nine-year partnership with Goller.
"It's always sad when things go after such a long time to end,” said Ludwig. “I am very proud of everything that I could get along with Sara. Especially this year's London Olympics were for me a great experience. Now I'm looking forward to new challenges. I am highly motivated, and ready to tackle the next four years once again with a new partner."
