May-Treanor, Walsh nominated for Sportswomen of the Year Award
Lausanne, Switzerland, September 3, 2012 – Olympic beach volleyball gold medallists Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh have been selected as finalists for the 2012 Sportswoman of the Year Award, the Women’s Sports Foundation has announced.
The pair are triple Olympic gold medallists in beach volleyball. They retained their title at this year’s London Olympic Games.
The award is given to athletes based on their performances and athletic achievements between August 1, 2011, and August 12, 2012.
The final vote is decided by a combination of a public vote (50 per cent) and the Women’s Sports Foundation’s Awards Committee’s vote (50 per cent). The winners will be the two athletes – one individual finalist and one team finalist – who receive the highest combined share of the public vote and the Awards Committee vote.
Voting will begin September 1, 2012, and will conclude at midnight EST on September 9, 2012. Voting information can be found on Facebook (@Women’s Sports Foundation) and Twitter (@WomensSportsFdn) and on the foundation’s website at www.womenssportsfoundation.org.
The finalists in each of the categories will be invited to attend the Annual Salute to Women in Sports Awards Gala on October 17, 2012, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York, where the winners will be announced.
