Vanuatu's Elwin/Latika had a strong start to the AVC Beach Volleyball Continental Cup | Fuzhou, China, June 21, 2012 – There was a relaxed atmosphere at Min
Park River as Vanuatu, Japan and Chinese Taipei posted convincing victories
on the opening day of the AVC Beach Volleyball Continental Cup
Finals on Thursday.
Vanuatu's FIVB Seoul Challenger winners Miller Elwin and
Latika Henriette were part of the team that saw off Hong Kong. The country played with a lot of
control in their matches – scoring on simple but effective attacks against and while Elwin/Latika had a rough patch finishing the first set of Vanuatu’s third
match they came through unscathed.
India were no match for Japan, as the latter’s counter-attacking
strategy proved too much. Japan executed a better offense that
awarded them with a big lead, which the Indians failed to recover from.
Chinese Taipei continued in the same manner which saw them win gold at the 3rd Asian Beach Games
a week ago. The solid pair of Kou N.H./Chang H.M. displayed its
quickness in defence and good attacking instincts to overwhelm Sri
Lanka.
China and Australia will begin their campaign tomorrow as they take on Vanuatu and Chinese Taipei, respectively. The other match-ups
will be equally difficult between Vietnam and Kazakhstan, and Thailand and
Japan.
