April Ross and Jennifer Kessy set to face local favourites in semifinals of London 2012 test event

April Ross (right) and Jennifer Kessy are still to lose a set at Horse Guard's Parade after reaching the semifinals of the Visa FIVB Beach Volleyball International
London, Great Britain, August 13, 2011 – April Ross and Jennifer Kessy kept up their impressive performances at the Visa FIVB Beach Volleyball International to set up a semifinal clash against home favourites Denise Johns and Lucy Boulton of Britain.

“It has been hard for us to get fans anyway and now we’re going to play Great Britain, so we’re going to have to mentally prepare for that,” Ross said.

The United States duo showed all their class to overcome tricky opponents in cross-border rivals Candelas Bibiana and Mayra Garcia of Mexico and win 21-18, 21-12.

The straight sets victory meant that the 2009 FIVB Swatch Beach Volleyball world champions have still to drop a set at Horse Guard’s Parade.

“It was a really good win for us,” Kessy said. “It was tough against them, as it is every time we play them, so it’s been really good for us today.

“We both served really well and our defence was really good. I didn’t sideout as well I wanted to, but we had a big enough lead that we could get away with a few.”

For the first time in the tournament teams will play two matches in one day. The semifinals will take place in the morning, with the gold medal and bronze medal matches in the afternoon.

“You play the first one like it’s a final and then you play the second one likes it’s a final,” Kessy said. “You really want to stay focused on that first match. You just want to get to the final.”
