Brazilians seek semi-final berths versus China & USA at SWATCH FIVB Seoul Open

Seoul, Korea, May 16, 2008 - Two Brazilian Beach Volleyball tandems advanced to the fourth round of the US$175,000 Seoul Open winners' bracket here Friday where the South American women will face challenges from teams from China and the United States for "final four" berths.  Top-seeded Juliana Felisberta Silva/Larissa Franca and sixth-seeded Shelda Bede/Ana Paula Connell won their opening matches Friday to earn spots in the winners' bracket's quarter-finals where the Brazilians will play teams from China and the United States, respectively, in the SWATCH FIVB World Tour event on centre court at Han River Jamsil Citizen Park.

Near-perfect day for SWATCH FIVB World Tour Italian Open seeds

Roseto degli Abruzzi, Italy, May 15, 2008 - Led by 2007 SWATCH FIVB World champions Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, seven of the eight top-seeded teams won as expected here Thursday during the opening rounds of the $US175,000 Italian Open presented by Abruzzo on the Palabeach at the Lungomare Trento.  Only 2006 SWATCH FIVB World champions Marcio Araujo and Fabio Magalhaes were defeated by a lower-seeded team during the first of four days of SWATCH FIVB World Tour competition. The third annual Italian Open presented by Abruzzo concludes Sunday when the final two teams compete for the $28,000 first-place prize.

Zagreb, Croatia, May 15, 2008 – The upcoming fourth edition of the SWATCH FIVB World Tour VIP Open will see nearly 100 of the world's best pairs from more than 30 countries competing at one of the toughest stops on the SWATCH FIVB World Tour, tournament organisers and sponsors announced at a press conference in Zagreb on Thursday. The event will run through May 20-25 on the courts of Erste Zagreb Beach Volley Club and on the line will be Prize Money of US$175,000 as well as Beijing Olympics qualification points.   More

Seoul, Korea, May 15, 2008 - After finishing a disappointing 13th in the 2008 SWATCH FIVB World Tour season opener at the end of March, Americans Tyra Turner and Rachel Wacholder were looking to improve their play on the international Beach Volleyball circuit starting here Thursday at the US$175,000 Seoul Open.  "We were expecting a lot more in Australia, but we did not deliver," said the 31-year old Turner after her team posted a pair of Seoul Open Main Draw wins Thursday to guarantee a ninth this week at the third Asian Confederation event on the 2008 SWATCH FIVB World Tour calendar.

Austrian & Mexicans net SWATCH FIVB World Tour Seoul Open seed-breakthroughs

Seoul, Korea, May 15, 2008 - The Austrian Schwaiger sisters and the ever-improving Mexican pair of Mayra Garcia and Bibiana Candelas scored the only seed-breakthroughs during the US$175,000 Seoul Open first-round of the winner's bracket play here Thursday on the sand courts at the Han River Jamsil Citizen Park.  After advancing to Thursday's play via the qualifier, the 24th-seeded Garcia and Candelas spoiled Korea's debut on the 2008 SWATCH FIVB World Tour by posting a 21-12 and 21-9 win over Eun-A Lee and Meong-Hee Lee to advance to a second-round meeting with eighth-seeded Tamsin Barnett and Natalie Cook of Australia.
